Sarah was awarded a scholarship to the Brevard Music Institute this summer. More
than 100 high school trombonists auditioned, and Sarah was one of three
selected
to play tenor trombone in both the Transylvania Symphonic Orchestra and
Transylvania Symphonic Band.

Current Students
Matthew Walter participated in GMEA solo and ensemble this weekend hosted by East Coweta High School and earned a superior medal. Matthew worked with his private lessons teacher to put together a solo with piano accompaniment. Congratulations Matthew !
John O'Leary (class of 2011) have both been accepted into the Governor's Honors Program. These very talented, exceptional young men have been selected to attend a six-week instructional program at Valdosta State University during the summer of 2009 that will provide them the opportunity to participate in enriching programs not usually available during the regular school year. Matt was selected for his excellence in English and John was selected for his exceptional Saxophone talent. MHS student, Donald Flemming, was also selected to participate in program and band member, Drew Naber, was selected as a finalist.
Horn player Zenia Zheng (class of 2011) represents McIntosh at All-State in March of 2009.
Trombonist Sarah Manley (class of 2011) was selected to perform with Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra the program provides training and an orchestral environment of the highest caliber, nurturing individual musicianship and ensemble performance. EYSO in comprised of exceptionally talented string, wind & percussion musicians in grades 9 - 12. Members are under the artistic direction of conductor Dr. Richard Prior and receive regular sectional instruction from Emory's Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Artist Affiliates and other Atlanta professionals
Trombonist, Sarah Manley & saxophonist, Drew Naber (both members of the class of 2011) represent MHS in the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony, the premier youth wind ensemble in metro Atlanta. AYWS is comprised of a select group of the finest high school wind and percussion instrumentalists in the area and performs the best of traditional and contemporary wind band literature. Students, under the direction of Dr. Scott A. Stewart, Director of Wind Studies at Emory University, rehearse at Emory each week and perform four concerts a year.
Torrie Richardson (class of 2012) has been accepted into the newly formed MAYWE Bassoon Choir. The group was formed in August 2008 to provide a unique performance and study opportunity for talented bassoonists. Under the direction of Georgia State University bassoon professor Ms. Michele Bowen, the ensemble rehearses every other week. In addition to performing selections at each MAYWE concert, the Bassoon Choir members participate in masterclasses and lectures on topics ranging from reed making to audition preparation.
Clarinetist Yuta Inaba (class of 2012) was accepted into the Metropolitan Atlanta Youth Wind Ensemble (MAYWE) at GSU. The ensemble is comprised of outstanding high school wind and percussion players from throughout the metropolitan Atlanta area. Wind Ensemble students collaborate with faculty artists from Georgia State University as well as members of professional orchestras in Atlanta. Repertoire is chosen from the most significant literature written for symphonic band and wind ensemble. This exceptional group of students is under the direction of Dr. Robert J. Ambrose, Director of Wind Studies and Ensembles and Associate Director of the School of Music at Georgia State University.
